Kamara Garden is a small farm on the southern coast of Crete, therefore the climate is rather arid and hot in summer. We are located 150 meters above sea level, 30-minutes walk down to a beautiful beach in a lovely small village, Tertsa. We are a small family, Markus, my wife Lisa, and our daughter Saya, who is 5 years old. Lisa is a Shiatsu practitioner and hiking guide. We share the space with 2 small dogs and 3 cats. We hope to have chicken this year as well. We started all that in November 2018 after moving here from Vienna, Austria. Before that, we never had anything to do with farming, so we are still learning daily and the place is still much in development. The main fields of production are olive oil, herbs as well as fruits and vegetables for ourselves. Duration of stay: It takes about a week to get familiar with the place, so we accept requests for a minimum of two weeks. What we do: Repairing old farm terraces (I love the work with stones) and preparing them for farming; structuring the entire field with paths, stairs, and small swales to reduce erosion; working on Olive trees, herb cultivation, planting Mediterranean forest and other trees (i.e. Moringa), working in the vegetable garden, water harvesting and distribution; building a storage room and a lot more. We have a very quiet life here, especially in winter.

Such a lovely host :) My friend and I made the mistake of coming to the hottest island in the hottest month so it was a bit too hot for us, but still a memorable stay. Tertsa is beautiful and remote and I think about the view of the stars from our room often :) Markus and Lisa were very accommodating, he even took me into town to the dentist when I had a tooth infection lol (thank u!) and put me onto some great music x the farm is definitely a good hike up the hill if you decide to go to the beach, but it is beautiful and the exercise is good for the soul! Cheers xx (loved the kitties and little friendly Saya too :))

Markus, the little free spirit of Saya and her mum, Lisa, are in many ways very special people. The peace, the lightness of soul and the love they share among them and to the land, makes you want to be part of it. The work is easy, not overwhelming at all and very respectful. The walk to the beach is a little bit long but the views are worthy. There is always something to do around and they would appreciate someone who is keen to help in whatever is needed. You will also have your free time every day and get to enjoy the surroundings. Totally recommend them!

This was my first wwooff experience and it was perfect. Markus gives you a lot of freedom. He helps en gives advice and teaches you all kind of stuff in between. You become immediately part of the family. The surroundings are beautiful. After working at Kamara, take a swim in the sea. Shower under the stars. The way of living at Kamara is in an very natural rythm. And its so wonderfull to be part of that. Beiing at Kamara touched my heart and changed my way of thinking and looking to this world I want to thank you for this wonderful experience. I’m very happy that i’ve met you. And i will be back as soon as possible

Dear Bente Thank you so much for being with us, helping us, enjoying your time. You left a good impression on the field. The garden beds you built, work perfectly and one of Sayas dolls is now called Bente. Come back, whenever you want. You are always welcome. We all wish you the best for your life.

It was our first time WWOOFing and it was a really great experience. Markus and his family are very friendly and helpful. We helped with simple tasks in the garden and learned a lot of new things. The property is extremely beautiful and has a great view.

It was a wonderfull time with the kamarafamiliy!! Just good people!!:) I learned new things about gardening and planting, eating, and the life. And yeah the place is such amazing. You are close to the beach, can go for a run, can enjoy the calmness and the best is the view on the sea and while you are watching the sea you enjoy a tea from the garden in front of you. I can really recommend this place to visit but it’s right… you should like the calmness.
