The majority of the property is an organic vineyard that has about 5000 vines from which we produce our own organic wine in the old-fashioned way: we still stomp the grapes and store the wine in wood barrels. Besides this, we also have on the farm a vegetable garden, lemon trees, orange trees, fig-trees, olive trees, almond trees, and many other fruit trees. We also have livestock with chickens, goats, sheep, donkeys and horses. There is also a wide variety of flowers. We also host tourists on the farm who come to buy wine, cheese, and olive oil and take a little tour of the vineyard. We are situated on the small Island of Lipsi, close to the Aegean Sea (about 100 meters) Thanks to EU subsidies, Lipsi is in the process of becoming the first Mediterranean green island (funding voted in April 2011), this will mean that the island after a transition period will have zero CO2 emissions, and will take its energy from solar and wind power; cars and scooters will be electric. The farm has been in the family for over 200 years and is unique. I will be staying on the farm almost most of the year, from February to November. Accommodation & Board Two options: 1. At the Main Farm (3-person capacity) Off the Grid,  No Electricity, Gas and Wood Cooking, and Small Solar Power For Lights. Separate lodging upstairs from the family house, with a bathroom and separate entrance. The kitchen situated downstairs will be shared. Food will be provided and WWOOFers will be able to cook themselves. We will have set times for when we eat. Breakfast is usually 1 hour to a half hour before we start. Lunch is between 1.30 and 2.00 pm Dinner is between 7.30 and 9.00 pm 2. at the Farm/Vineyard (2 person capacity) This is a smaller version of the main farm (1000 grape vines, 15 fig trees, 10 almond trees, and 30 olive trees). It is about 100 meters from the main farm. You can get to it from the main farm 2 ways through the field, or walk on the road which takes about 4 minutes. The lodging is a small one-room house with electricity provided by solar panels and a wood-burning small traditional Greek fireplace. There is also a propane stove for heating. It has one 20 sq. meters room with a curtain separate from the bedroom with 2 single bunk beds. The dry toilet and shower are outside. WWoofers staying at this lodging will have to be more independent and will have to be able to live with more basic accommodations and be able to cook for themselves with the appliances provided. All food will be provided. Please let us know if you have a special diet or are allergic to anything. A lot of the food that we eat is grown on the farm so it is all organic. We also shop at the local markets and buy good wholesome foods. We do not provide any snacks, junk food, or alcoholic beverages at the farm, we eat meat but only if it is from our farm or a local farm so it is not that often, we also eat seafood that we catch or that the local fisherman catches. Τypes of volunteers' tasks Fruit & vegetable cultivation Animal breeding including animal daycare, and cheese making. Preparing products: bottling the wine, packing the figs, making the jams, etc. Tasks in the vineyard: pruning of vines and picking of grapes and also preparation of wine. Cooking Eco–building (once a month): We will also be building self-sustainable eco-homes with all the materials from the island. The WWOOFers will help with building, insulation, gardens, planting and pruning trees, and landscaping. We will be using sheep’s wool for insulation, stones from the property, seaweed, and bamboo from the island. Specific helping and/or living rules Must be willing to learn and get along with other people. Being clean and respectful. If you are coming just for a free vacation please do not apply. Further information This is a very unique island and farm. We are looking for people who have a good and positive attitude about organic farming. There are no big cities around just one village; the island has 650 people and during the summer months there are hundreds of tourists that come to our place on a daily basis to buy wine, cheese, and olive oil. The farm is a small farm but has a lot of things going on and it is a magnificent place. There are also many things to do on the island on your off time and your days off from hiking swimming, exploring, fishing, and snorkeling, there are also many restaurants and taverns and coffee shops and there is a library, a gym, there are also many nearby islands like Patmos and Leros and many more that you can take day trips to. We can host 1 to 2 wwofers at the same time. Organic methods: All Natural Farming and Wine Making Certifications: All Natural Type of help needed: Planting, Animal Care, Cheesemaking, cooking
