Hello! My name is Spyros (39). Together with Holly, Maciek and a bunch of short-term volunteers we live in this 17th century monastery in the mountains of the Peloponnese.
The monastery is not active. The are no monks here. It functions as a hub and a guesthouse.
Still the place is open to the public as a monument.
So, there is a constant flow of people.
Modest clothing is required at all times :)
As part of our activities we own a small organic farm and manage a community garden as well. We don't sell our produce - it is mostly for ourselves and our guests. Holly is our permaculture specialist with more than 20 years of experience. Together with her you will take care of the two plots, you will share about permaculture, regenerative agriculture and Hugelkultur. We all start our days with a sharing circle around 08.30. We would typically work from 09.00 to 14.00 and then regroup for a shared meal. Afternoons are usually free.
Accommodation is inside the monastery. There is a four-bed dormitory with private bathroom dedicated to the people supporting the project. There are two dining halls, two kitchens and some tables outside in the yard. There is a common living space, a workshop area and a lot of bedrooms - the old cells. The place is immersed in nature. Surrounded by mountains and sitting on top of a cliff, next to a river. It is quite serene.
Everyone organizes their own breakfast. Tea and coffee are available all day. Lunches are shared by all of us. Dinners vary depending on what's happening at the premises. Some times they are shared, some times improvised - some team members skip them altogether.
I enjoy hiking and cycling. There are plenty of hiking trails around. There are also two bicycles here that we share. When the weather is good I like to spend time outside. When it gets cold, sitting by the fire is my favorite thing to do!
The place is best reachable by car.
Buses to here start from Patras at 14.00 and only run on Fridays and Sundays.
If you plan to arrive by public means of transport please keep that in mind for your planning :)
