Lefkada Permaculture Farm

We are Chara and Kostas. We left Athens 30 years ago and created a farm near the Ionian Island of Lefkada, in a lush natural environment up to the hill and near the sea.Our farm produces vegetables, fruits, olive oil and herbs in small quantities, mainly for the family needs. We also have chickens and two dogs. Our farm is like a food forest. We preserve as much of the natural forest as we can and at the same time we cultivate, so we have amazing biodiversity. We have been seriously involved in the preservation of traditional seed varieties, environmental education and art. We created a non-profit association, named "Terra Artistica", as a vehicle for our actions. We have had very pleasant experiences with volunteers for many years in the past, which created strong friendships. We consider volunteers members of the family and hope for interesting cultural exchanges and knowledge.
On the farm there is a small guest house for two people. There is solar-powered lighting and running water. The nearest wi-fi access is in the next village. The farm is about 1km away from the village of Peratia and 4km away from the island of Lefkada. Transportation can be done on foot, by bus or hitchhiking.Additionally, it is easy to rent a motorbike. You can reach Lefkada by plane to Athens and then by bus where we will pick you up. You can also reach Aktion airport and then take a taxi to Lefkada.
We provide accommodation and food from the farm. The minimum stay is two weeks. In return we want 4 hours of work for 5 days a week, with flexible hours. We need help on the farm, watering, picking fruit, planting, harvesting, etc., feeding chickens and dogs. Life on the farm will be a precious and rare experience of natural living. Also an experience rich in knowledge, permaculture education, full of respect for nature and humanity, and a vision for a better world on earth.

I had a wonderful time staying at Kosta Rica. It is an amazing remote place located in a beautiful landscape. The work was really fun and enriching as you can learn a lot from it and of course from Kosta who lets you take part in his vision of permaculture which was truly inspiring. I am so thankful for this great experience and very grateful for Kostas generosity, creativity and hospitality. I miss Greta and the chickens and I am excited how the project will develop. :)) I wish all the best for the future and I am hoping to visit again!!

I’m so happy and grateful for the time I spent in Koste Rica.
Over the past two weeks, a sense of peace and contentment has grown within me that I haven’t felt in a long time. I really enjoyed working with Kostas and spending time together.
He created an amazing place up here, and I’m inspired by his commitment to permaculture, his optimism, his kind and gentle nature, his perspective on social transformation, and his and Charas ideas for new projects.
Every morning, we spent 4–5 hours doing a wide variety of tasks on the farm. During that time, Kostas explained everything, every now and then, we’d drift into conversations about social issues or just do our work.
I felt completely taken care of, and Kostas always made sure I had everything I needed. One weekend, we all went on a really nice trip together.
The small house has everything you need for a rustic lifestyle. (It only has electricity for lighting and cold water.)
It was not easy for me to leave Kosta Rica and say goodbye to Kostas, to the prickly artichokes, the olive trees, Greta the dog, the freshly prepared vegetable beds and banana trees, the clucking of the chickens, and the view from the terrace.
I hope I can take a little bit of Kosta Rica and what this time here has stirred within me with me and cultivate it, like a small seed.
Thank you so much for having me, Kostas and Chara, and I hope to see you again!

Spending a month here was a deeply enriching and peaceful experience. As well as being an opportunity to learn a great deal about permaculture, Kostas and Chara gave us the chance to experience a simpler, more meaningful way of life, where we were able to sharpen our awareness of everything that lives within and around us. They are very kind, strong and inspiring people, and it was a pleasure to share moments of conversation, laugher and meditative silence, whether working or gazing at the landscape.
We were alone on the farm, with the chickens and Greta, a beautiful young white dog full of energy and kindness. We had everything we needed: Kostas and Chara were always attentive to our needs, and they regularly brought us feta, sheep’s yoghurt and lots of other delicious produce. The days here were like ritualized: work from around 8 am to 1 pm, followed by time to play cards, write, start the fire for the evening…
Even though the weather hasn’t always been on our side (we had unusually heavy rainfall this February), we’ve been able to carry out a variety of tasks: looking after the chickens every day, weeding, planting vegetables and clover, making bundles of olive branches… and taking part in Chara’s art history classes! An excellent opportunity to learn more about Greek painting (and practise my Greek)!
Thank you once again for welcoming us so warmly and generously, I hope we can stay in touch. I wish you all the best for you and your whole family!

Our stay in Kosta Rica was truly great ! Every morning, we had the pleasure of working with Kostas in his beautiful farm, whether in the garden, with the trees or with the chickens. He always patiently explained our tasks to us, which made the work very enjoyable and interesting. And he generously shared his knowledge of permaculture, which was so enriching for us. There was always a very peaceful and calm atmosphere when we worked together in the garden, and sometimes, while working, we talked about fascinating topics and shared our views of the world.
Kostas was very attentive and we always had everything we needed, which very quickly made us feel safe and at home. We really enjoyed living on the farm and appreciating simple moments in this beautiful place surrounded by nature.
Kostas and Chara welcomed us with open arms and a lot of generosity. Meeting people like them, truly devoted to various causes and following their values and dreams, was immensely inspiring.
Thank you so much Kostas and Chara !

This farm is AMAZING! Kostas and Chara were wonderful hosts. I felt like a part of the family and was able to have wonderful experiences and conversations with them. The farm is great and you will learn many amazing practices and skills. Kostas is a natural teacher—and by extension, you become a natural learner of permaculture. I would highly recommend taking a journey to Kosta Ricka to become familiar with their philosophy on earth stewardship through natural farming!

As the first wwoofers of the new era of the farm we will transmit our review of the experience !
We had a wonderful time and we recommend this place at 100%.
- [ ] As two women we felt completely safe.
- [ ] The place is beautiful you will be surrounded by nature with a wonderful sea sight view but you will have no easy access to public transportation. But you will have access to a cute coffee near by the village. The house is very nice you will have everything you need inside.
- [ ] We had a wonderful time with Kosta and Chara, they are both inspiring, helpful, welcoming and eager to transmit their knowledge.
Don’t hesitate anymore and leave your bags there !
