Kamara Garden is a small farm on the southern coast of Crete, therefore the climate is rather arid and hot in summer. We are located 150 meters above sea level, 30-minutes walk down to a beautiful beach in a lovely small village, Tertsa. We are a small family, Markus, my wife Lisa, and our daughter Saya, who is 5 years old. Lisa is a Shiatsu practitioner and hiking guide. We share the space with 2 small dogs and 3 cats. We hope to have chicken this year as well.
We started all that in November 2018 after moving here from Vienna, Austria. Before that, we never had anything to do with farming, so we are still learning daily and the place is still much in development.
The main fields of production are olive oil, herbs as well as fruits and vegetables for ourselves.
Duration of stay: It takes about a week to get familiar with the place, so we accept requests for a minimum of two weeks.
What we do:
Repairing old farm terraces (I love the work with stones) and preparing them for farming; structuring the entire field with paths, stairs, and small swales to reduce erosion; working on Olive trees, herb cultivation, planting Mediterranean forest and other trees (i.e. Moringa), working in the vegetable garden, water harvesting and distribution; building a storage room and a lot more.
We have a very quiet life here, especially in winter.
