Family home and garden - rural
Ionian Islands
We are a family of four: Stefanos, Loukia, and our sons Foivos and Fillipos. We live in Kefalonia, an island in Western Greece. Our village is located on the southern coast of Kefalonia.
We welcome you to join us and take part in our daily life and activities. We use traditional organic methods to cultivate vegetables, our 300 olive trees, and our 1.3 hectares of vineyard. We make our own olive oil, wine, and Tsipouro ["Grappa" a kind of grape spirit] in much the same way as our ancestors. We also make bread, cheese, soap, and much more. Finally, we run a small guest house on the property.
Woofers should be over 21 years old (preferably) and should understand that wwoofing is not holidays or holidays in exchange for the help you provide. People who wish to apply should be interested in our farming activities, be willing to help, and be eager to learn. No special skills are needed, just a good mood and the drive to participate in our activities.
Woofers should also know that our daily activities are not always planned in detail and in advance because they depend on the circumstances, weather, and other factors. We are freestyle, so don’t expect a strict routine.
Couples or a couple of friends are preferred during the olive harvesting period of olives and grapes (November and the first half of December and during August-September respectively), but individual wwoofers are also welcome
List of activities per month:
JANUARY: pruning the vineyards and olives
FEBRUARY: pruning the vineyards;
MARCH: preparing the soil for summer vegetables, pruning orchard trees;
APRIL: clearing the landscape, removing wild vegetation, making cheese;
MAY: Helping with the vineyards and garden
JUNE, JULY: no wwoofers needed during most of the summer season;
AUGUST: harvesting the grapes and making wine
SEPTEMBER: collecting the grapes for fermentation&distillation, preparing the soil for the winter garden, distilling starts after the 15th of September
OCTOBER: distilling tsipouro
NOVEMBER: harvesting the olives, tending to the garden
DECEMBER: harvesting the olives, and tending to the garden.
(Holiday season is 15 Dec – 15 Jan)
Months when help is mostly needed: November and the first half of December, March, April, and August 15th-September 15th
Organic methods: The fertilization of the land is being done with strictly organic methods such as compost, a few selected organic fertilizers, and green manure and we also use the biodynamic calendar.
We believe in and respect the principles of water memory theory and we apply them in the liquid products that we produce.
Certifications: Euphoria Kefalonia

The month I spent at this farm was a gift. I shared the everyday life of a generous, joyful, lively and inspiring family, who passed on to me their wisdom on how to stay connected both with nature (and its energies) and to one another. Even though I lived alone in a caravan (a lovely little home where I had everything I needed), Stefanos’ and Loukia’s door was always open, whether it was to spend some nice time with them or simply relax indoors with Ricky (the dog) and their cats.
I mainly helped them in the vineyards, weeding whilst they pruned the vines, as that was the main task at that time of year. Their vineyards are set in a beautiful location, nestled between the mountains and the sea - a peaceful and meditative work environment. I also helped with bottling the olive oil and preparing the vegetable garden for the coming season. I really enjoyed working with them and always felt at ease.
But what I hadn’t expected when I arrived at the farm was the people I would meet there: I was so kindly invited to get-togethers with friends, music sessions with wonderful musicians (if you play an instrument, do bring it along!) and Greek celebrations, including Orthodox Easter, which I’ll never forget – there was so much joy and togetherness. I feel deeply grateful for the bonds that have been formed and which will stay with me for a long time to come.
Leaving this farm was very hard. But it helps to think about the next time I’ll be back!
Στεφάνε και Λουκία, ευχαριστώ για όλα!

Absolutely amazing hospitality; besides satisfying work, had a chance to try local food, sightsee the mesmerising area and gain a lot of great experiences. Great to see how sustainably my hosts take care of their place and how passionate they’re about their farming. Highly recommend!!

Stefanos and Loukia are incredible kind, generous, funny, and intelligent people. This was my first time WWOOFing, I stayed for 7 weeks, and it could not have gone any better. I would highly recommend WWOOFing here if you are in search of experiencing life on a Greek island from a local perspective (and I would suggest staying as long as possible so you can truly settle in:)
I learned a lot from Stefanos, Loukia, and their friends about the wine and olive oil, of course, but also about life and things that I am already adopting into my life and daily routines back home.
As Stefanos, Loukia, (and Riki!) and their family know, I had an incredible time and will definitely be back. Sending you all a hug!

Thanks Stefanos and Loukia for such a good time!! I lived in a caravan for 3 weeks under lemon and orange trees, welcome in Greece ;) Now I know why olive oil has his price, picking up olives isn't an easy job, needs endurance and some muscles ;) but in a good team, with good mood and some jokes, the day in the nature and in the mountains is full of new experience! I felt so welcome in your house, and I like this "open house" feeling when we were sitting together with so many friends by 1,2 glases wine - that's the feeling of community and life! And "the thanks" for the work on the field. I wish you all the best! Maybe we will see us ones again!

How to describe this month spent with Stefanos and Loukia, it was so rewarding! I was first welcomed very warmly and quickly felt at ease with the family, as well as with their friends. The caravan accommodation is also very comfortable and Stefanos and Loukia were always attentive to my needs. I also shared many good times with them, very good meals with produce from the garden, and laughed a lot about Stefanos' thousand anecdotes!
The work was also very informative and varied, both in the vineyards, in the vegetable garden, and for making tsipouro and wine, and always with Stefanos' passionate explanations.
THANKS A LOT for everything, I really felt at home with you, and with Riki, Lina, Grigri and Miou :) I hope to see you again soon!! XXX Oreganoulla :)
